Theory Lesson post2

Vladimir Propp is a russian critic and theorist. He analised over 100 russian fairytales in the 1920's. he proposed that it was possible to classify the character and their actions into clearly defined roles and functions.
Character Roles:
The Hero (Seeks Something)
The Villan (Opposes the hero)
The Donor (Provides help for hero)
The Dispatcher (Sends the hero on his way)
The False Hero (Falsly assuming)
The Helper (Gives the hero support)
The Princess (reward for the hero, she needs protection)
The Farther (Gives away princess)

Mise En Scene
This is the french term for the analysis of what you see on screen. This does not include sound.
Lighting
Setting
Acting/Facial Expressions
Costume/Props
Camera Angles

After learning about Mise En Scene we were told that we had to wright an essay about the mise en scene of the film; The Royal Tenenboums, directed by Wez Anderson.
