The Male Glaze

The concept of the male glaze, this is the concept of dealing with how the audience veiws the people presented.
For feminists it can be thaught of in 3 ways:
How men look at women.
How women look at themselves.
How women look at other women.

Laura Mulvey coined the term 'the male glaze' in 1975. she believes that film audiences have to veiw characters from the perspective of a hetrosexual male.

The camera lingers on the curves of a female body, and events which occur to women are presented largley in the context of a man's reaction to these events. Relegates women to the status of objects. The female veiwer must experience the narrative secondarily, by identification with the male.

The are some critisms to the Mulvey 'Glaze theory'
