Disabilty

Analysisng the word disability.
DIS the suffix of the word is negative implying a negative fence around the word. and word with dis infront of it is a negative word so with the name being called DISabled or having a DISability is a bad thing to have. This creates a sterotype before we even look at the symbol.
The sign, label, symbol.
as you can see in the european union symbol the person relys on the chair to give it arms and a structure. We all know that not all diabled people rely on having a weelchair, but as the symbol shows this it gives a sterotype of that being the only disables person. which in turn creates concepts such as broken, dependant and pitiable.
In the media.
disabled people are very rarley if not at all in advertisment unless its for a campain to pitty them. this is because disabled isnt seen as sexy, or the thing to have, so they are very often regected like they are often in the community. giving them a low social status.
things you often see in the media are:
- they are incapable/ cartn do somthing/ dad to day activitys
-were ashamed of them and they are of themselves. (difference)
-Assumed to be less inteligent regardless of your dissability.
-Sterotyped as being weelchair bound due to icon.
-unnatractive, not seen as sexually attractive or desireable.
-could be used for comical relif
- moody/play the victim/made to look week/pitied.
-if there already disabled we like to see them find love/ get better/ recover.
-given a makeover to look real. (programs on sky...extream makeover) (Reconstruction of face)
-seen as a way ro remove character status if you see them disabled.
- most of the actors playing dissabled characters are most likely not to be dissabled.

Why is it that large or dissables people are rrley portrayed as being sexualy attractive?
in my opinion i belive that the media is to blame for the rare portrail of sexually attractive fat or obese people. everydy people arounf the world swith on the t.v and see slim healthy people. and then to look at yourself ans see somthing that isnt the same, you critasise and for you to critasice someone else will then bring out the sterotype of somthing.
