film openings with reaserch

After discussing with the group about the genre of the film and our initial ideas. we have came up with an idea which we belive will give us the space to be creative but include what we actually love and have a passion for. as a group we brainstormed multiple ideas across the wide rage of grenes that exist but we couldnt seem to find a genre which really suited our style so we mixed two genres which already exsist. our genere is going to be dance but with a twist of urban life.

we cannot emphasise enough that our opening isnt going to be a musical. it will be set in the UK so it relates back to it audience.
We didnt want any cheesey rangs to riches typical dance film and we didnt want it to be a really bad atempt of a rubbish horror film. so we have taken the element of urban life and chrime and incerted it into the genre of dance to make a neat and different twist.
The dance element will not be like westside story/hairspray where the people join in but be part of the script like flashdance/ step up ect. therfore it is a film about dance not a film with dance which makes a significant diference to the audience.
The horror section is linked with the dance section. the person gets murded. But the the person dancing's choreography is baced on the murded. the dance will play a juxtaposition to the murder happening. quite difficult to explain but we believe it will look very effective. The music to the film can be created. we dont want it to be r&b hiphop like step up save the last dance.
sound cloud is possible or asking one of are talented musical friends to lend us a hand.

Your idea sounds very interesting and potentially very unique and exciting, however I am struggling to envisage what you are going to create. Whilst not a massive fan of musicals I have seen a few classics and am conscious these are not the sort of films you wish to emulate.

To help me better understand the direction you wish to take with this opening could you include some of the following in your blog.

Could you explain whether the dance will be part of 'real life' i.e. like a traditional MUSICAL like West Side Story/Guys and Dolls where the world around joins in the song and dance routine

    or

will it take place in a dance studio and be used as a juxtaposition to the violence/emotion in another scene. So the character will dance but not 'randomly' as they walk down the street.

An important point to remember is that all music MUST be copyright free. That means you cannot use an existing artists music.

Could you explain the plot in more depth, are we in the real world? are we in the UK? Who is the main character (male/female/teen/black/white etc). Is the death murder/natural causes/disease/accidental/tragic incident.

As I've previously commented on Jack's blog the only thing I can currently think of that is remotely close to your idea is 'Dancer In The Dark'

which features a main character who is slowly going blind and who uses the noise around her to create music
